Why Art is Comfort Food for the Soul

Chuck made his famous cornbread this morning - the smell filled our kitchen with warmth and love, and it got me thinking about comfort food. You know that feeling when you taste something that just makes everything better? That’s exactly what I believe art should do for the soul.
When I create a piece, I’m not just mixing colors on canvas. I’m stirring up hope. I’m seasoning each brushstroke with laughter. I’m serving up a helping of pure joy that I hope will nourish whoever sees it.
Think about your favorite comfort food - maybe it’s your grandmother’s apple pie or that perfect cup of coffee on a rainy morning. There’s something about it that goes beyond taste, isn’t there? It feeds something deeper, something that was hungry for exactly that kind of love.
That’s what I want my art to be for you. When you look at one of my pieces, I want it to feel like coming home. I want the colors to wrap around you like your favorite blanket. I want the energy to lift your spirits the way a good friend’s laughter does.
My paintings are full of bright colors, flowing shapes, and that sense of movement that makes you feel alive. They’re created in moments of pure happiness - when I’m playing with paint like that three-year-old girl who first discovered magic in a can of silver paint.
Every piece I create carries a little piece of my heart, a dash of hope, and a generous helping of joy. Because in a world that can sometimes feel heavy, don’t we all need a little comfort food for the soul?
I hope when you find that perfect piece for your home, it feeds something beautiful in you every single day.
Serving up joy, one brushstroke at a time,
Debbie 🧡
